Pabitra G

Being from a poor family, Pabitra was married off as a young teen. Her husband couldn’t provide financially for the family so she left her daughter and went to work in the Middle East for six years. She had been sending all her hard earned money home to her husband, and when she finally returned home, she discovered he had become an alcoholic, was having an affair and spent all her hard-earned money.

Going into a state of depression, Pabitra developed suicidal thoughts. Her life had become so dismal. Still, she could not fathom leaving her daughter behind. Finding what little determination she had left to provide, she once again prepared to go abroad for work. This time, instead of returning to Kuwait where she had gone before, she took advice from men who deceived her into believing they had lucrative work in India. Soon after meeting up with them, she was drugged and transported to a run down establishment in India.

When she awoke, she was so scared but found an opportunity to escape. She ran for four days and nights straight. Not having her mental health medication, she became very ill. People began torturing her in the streets because they believed she was crazy. The police eventually found her and brought her into the care of our partners who are helping her rebuild herself, her future, and care for her daughter.

“I finally found people who really cared for me. I’m looking forward to my future now.”
