Tika

Tika grew up in a small village near the highway of Nepal in a one-bedroom home with a roof that barely held the rain. Her parents were hard workers. Her mother worked in the fields while her dad worked as a porter for other people. They barely made ends meet for the family.

Because of this, Tika did not have her parent’s support to go to school. Her responsibilities were feeding the cattle and cooking for the family. Tika was committed to learning so she would wake up as early as 3:00am, so she could study and still perform her daily duties. She managed to finish the 10th grade, but trying to further her education was impossible. She planned to run away to the city to find a job and continue her education. Just as she was about to leave, a friend from her village told her about CHELI Nepal’s Training Center.

Being accepted the Training Center has changed her life.

“At the Training Center, I was loved and cared for. The sisters there listened to my story and supported my journey of receiving my tailoring training. Once I graduated, I realized that my skill could help me support myself and my family. I returned home to my village. Now I run a tailoring shop and the village depends on me for their clothes. I can support my family and send my siblings to school!”
