Rubina

Rubina loved life with her family on their small, family farm. She worked hard alongside her parents to keep it running. Her uncle could see the farm was struggling to provide, so he offered to send Rubina to India to secure a job and make money for the family. Her family refused the offer, wanting her to continue her education.

One day during a storm, Rubina’s uncle managed to kidnap her. She was terrified and didn’t know where she was going. Her uncle took her to Kathmandu and gave her over to two strange men. The men took Rubina and booked a hotel room for the night before they would trafficked her to India the next day. There, they took turns sexually abusing her.

The next day, the men coached Rubina to ignore our counselors as she was crossing the border. They would go ahead of her and wait on the other side. When Rubina was approached by our partner’s Border Counselors, she didn’t listen to the instructions she was given. She told her story and bravely led the Counselors and Police straight to her traffickers. Both men were arrested. She testified against them in court. She did not forget what her uncle did, and testified against him, too.

Rubina is now residing at our partners Safe Home under their care and protection. Her bravery and courage empower those around her.
