elina

Elina came to our partners when she was 18. As a child, her father passed away forcing her mother to travel abroad as a laborer. Elina was left in the care of her grandparents. As the years passed, it was clear her mother would not be returning for her.

Elina had many health complications as a young person ultimately requiring the removal of one of her kidneys. As her grandparents were old, Elina was sent to her aunts for care, but her aunt expected her to help keep the home even during her recovery period. She struggled to help and so her aunt sent her back to her grandparents to live. She felt lonely and rejected.

Elina ran away from home to live with friends. There, she met a boy who showed her affection, and they moved in together. Several months later, the boy left for India and promised to return, but once again, time passed, and he did not. Instead, Elina was verbally and physically assaulted by his remaining family members. During this time, she was so depressed that she would spend time alone in her room on social media.

Elina met another boy through her social accounts. Eventually, the boy proposed, and she accepted. Elina moved in with him and his family. After several months, Elina started having stomach pains so they went to the doctor. The doctor confirmed Elina was eight months pregnant. The boy’s family was so angry, they handed her over to police.

The Police officers contacted our partners for emergency shelter and care. Without any judgment, Elina was welcomed in the Safe Home and cared for like a daughter. On December 2022, she gave birth to a baby girl. While she was in Hospital, her sisters from the Safe Home came and stayed by her side and after much intervention and counseling, the family of Elina’s daughter accepted and agreed to care for them.

“I am now home with my daughter and her father. We married, and he is my husband. I will never forget the love and support that was provided. Thank you for saving me and my daughter!”
