Manjita

Manjita was born and raised in a poor family. She helped her parents by doing household chores and caring for her siblings. Being young and naïve, Manjita grew restless with her life and started communicating with a man through social media. He would message her frequently and the two devised a plan to escape.

One night, Manjita and the man ran away together and stayed at a hotel for the night. The man forced himself on her. She tried to object but couldn’t stop him. She was filled with fear.

The next morning, they travelled to the border. One of our partner’s Border Counselors noticed Manjita looking terrified and began talking to her. She accepted the offer for help and stated “I am so thankful to the Border Counselors for approaching me and helping me clearly see my risk of human-trafficking, abuse and exploitation waiting for me across the border. ”

Manjita decided to return home with her family where she can raise awareness in her community about the dangers of trafficking to young women.
