Grishma

Born into a poor family of 14 members, Grishma has faced many trials. Her parents worked as laborers and earned less than minimum wage. Growing up, Grishma did not have a home to call her own as her family lived in a small make-shift shelter in the village. She recalls days where she and her siblings went to bed hungry simply because they could not afford food.

Over the following years, Grishma lost two of her brother’s to illness. Her remaining brother was killed. Many of Grishma’s sisters married and moved away from the family, leaving her with the major burden of helping her family financially. Grishma was faced with finding a job, though she had minimal education and no marketable skills.

One day, while she was out looking for work, Grishma was struck by lightning and lost her sight. After 14 days, her sight returned.

Grishma believed she was the product of a miracle. Surely, she was meant to still be here after all she had endured.

That is when someone she met referred her to our partner’s Training Center where she learned how to tailor clothing. Now, Grishma is successfully running her own tailoring business. She is an inspiration to all of us!

“I am finally independent and supporting my family’s needs. Though my business is quite new, I am working hard on it and am determined to do my best for my family and others in my community.”
