Kalpana

Kalpana, like many teens, wasn’t seeing eye to eye with her parents. In a moment of frustration, she made the decision to run away from home. She took some money out of her mother’s drawer and traveled alone to India without a plan of where she was headed and who would be there.

After crossing the border, she was visibly confused and rattled. Kalpana was immediately approached by a woman named Maya who looked for vulnerable girls like Kalpana, forcing them into prostitution in the brothels. If Kalpana tried to resist, she was forced by being physically tortured. One day, Maya sold her to a local businessman who also forced Kalpana to perform for customers.

Meanwhile, Kalpana’s family was hard at work to find and rescue her. They notified Nepali Police and our partners in Nepal about their missing daughter. Our team in India worked with local officials to find Kalpana and, after she was missing for over four months, she was rescued. She has been reunited with her father and repatriated back to Nepal.
