Asmita

Asmita was treated by her mother and stepfather like a house maid - never shown love or affection. It broke her heart and led her to falling for a man through social media. The man promised to find her a good job in Kathmandu, so she agreed to meet him. When they were together in a hotel, he drugged her juice and she lost consciousness. As she came to, she found herself alone and naked.

Asmita felt ashamed, scared and hopeless. She did not know what had happened while she was drugged. She gathered her things together and left for her grandparent’s home. To her dismay, the man contacted her after a few months later and blackmailed her to go to India with him. He threatened her by saying he would post the video of her nude body on social media if she didn’t comply. Once again, Asmita was terrified and left home for India through Birgunj.

As she was on her way across the border, she was intercepted by our partner’s Border Surveillance team and the Nepali police. The man was nowhere to be found so the police allowed her to remain in our partner’s protection.

Asmita decided to work on improving her life and enrolled in the Safe Home program. She is currently still there.

“I want to give thanks for helping, supporting and guiding me. This life is different from the one I have lived before. It is safer and peaceful. I want to learn Beauty Salon skills and I want to open my own business. The day I go back to my native place I also want to help aware girls like me about the danger of being trafficked.”
