Kabita

Kabita had been sold into the brothels of India where she was endlessly tortured and abused. Life had become so dark and hopeless. Kabita was losing the will to live. One day, she managed to escape.

Realizing that Kabita had no one to help her and no where to go, she decided to end her life.

Right at that time as she was wandering and contemplating her despair, authorities were called to approach this young woman to assess her emotional and mental state. After learning her story, authorities called our partners for help.

Kabita was now safe and for the first time in a long time, found herself surrounded by people who cared for her well-being. Our partners worked tirelessly to repatriate her back to Nepal where she began recovery in the Safe Home.

It was an incredibly difficult road, but Kabita made a remarkable turn. She became determined to save other girls that were living the life she had escaped. She remembered the girls she left behind and could see their faces when she closed her eyes.

Kabita is now one of the lead Border Counselors on the rescue team in India. She uses her life and experience to stand in the gap and defend victims of human-trafficking.
